Preorder “If You Keep Losing Sleep”

Filed under: Music — silverneurotic @ 6:52 am

From Chairpage:

Seems like Australians are getting one heck of a deal if they preorder the latest Silverchair single, “If You Keep Losing Sleep”.

For only $5 you can own an autographed photo and the ringtone for your mobile in addition to the single!  You only have until October 10th though, so if you are in Australia, you better jump on it.   For non Australians, this deal will still apply, minus the ring tone and will (obviously) cost more due to shipping.

Check out Chairpage for more info.

Show Postponed (and not due to Daniel getting sick!)

From MySpace:

ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE FORCED TO POSTPONE TONIGHT’S BALLARAT SHOW

For immediate release: 16 September, 2007 – POWDERFINGER and SILVERCHAIR have been forced to postpone tonight’s show at the Ballarat Showgrounds due to high winds earlier today tearing a massive hole in the tent.

Strong winds earlier today caused a 15 metre tear to the roof of the tent which was being erected to house tonight’s Across the Great Divide show.

The promoters and local authorities have been on site assessing the damage and have agreed that the tent cannot be safely repaired under the current weather conditions, and in light of the Severe Weather Warning which has been posted by the Department of Meteorology.

When making the decision to postpone the show, the promoter’s primary consideration was for the safety of the audience and the performers.

The promoters hope to reschedule the show for tomorrow evening, Monday 17 September, subject to the weather clearing to allow repairs.

All tickets issued will be valid for the rescheduled performance. Ticket holders are urged to go to www.acrossthegreatdivide.com.au for further updates. A further statement will be issued by the promoters by noon tomorrow.

Just a note, I have not discontinued the Daily Roundup, I just have not had anything to post for several days.  I will be turning this feature into a weekly feature, at least for the time being.

Fan Friday

Filed under: Music — silverneurotic @ 8:01 am

Welcome to Fan Friday.  Today the focus is not so much on Silverchair, but rather, you the Silverchair fan.  I will be posting videos of Silverchair covers, videos that fans have made regarding Silverchair and other similar type things.  I will also be posting interviews with you, the ‘Chairfan…give you the chance to have your say (instead of always reading what I think).  So if you would like to be interviewed or want to direct my attention to your videos, artwork, etc. please drop me an email.

We will start off the first day of this feature with an interview I conducted in the not so distant past with Laura whom I mentioned a few times on here.  She has been very helpful with submitting stuff for this blog and I very much have appreciated her help.

1.  How long have you been a fan?

2.  What made you start listening to Silverchair?
I’m quite a NEW fan and I think of me as an authentic  ”back-to-front” fan. What I mean is:a. I’m not Australian  (as you probably guessed from my English…)  and I had no idea who Silverchair were until I moved to Sydney (shame…shame..shame….)…That means: No Frogstomp nostalgia for me…

b. I started to listen to their music without knowing what sort of people they were and how they looked like…That means: No Daniel Johns crush…

I simply fall in love with one song (The greatest view) and that was just the beginning. I wanted to know more about this band because I had never listened to something like their music before, so I bought all the previous CDs and DVDs. Their music has been growing on me since then and now I’m absolutely mad about them (or, as my husband would say, I’m obsessed).

So, Diorama is the first album I listened to and I have been listening to it almost every day until Young Modern came out this year. I’m a “music addicted’ and I buy so many CDs… ($$$), but although there are many artists I love, listening to Silverchair takes me to another dimension.

I remember an old interview to Daniel in which he said something like ” what I want is [.......] this is rock, this is pop, this is…whatever, and this is SILVERCHAIR”….Well, I think they have achieved that! Their music is so unique that I can’t go from Silverchair to any other of my CDs without the impression that all the other music is lame, flat, ordinary….

3.  Have you seen them live?
Yes, I saw Silverchair playing the tribute to the Midnight Oil at the Arias 2006 and then I went to their gig in Sydney in May 2007. That was….UNBELIEVABLE. Their live performance was brilliant, flawless, a superb combination of energy, proficiency and enjoyment……and I was lucky enough to be in the second row! There was such an emotional connection! The best show ever!I will be going to see them playing with Powderfinger this Saturday (8 September) in Sydney and then again in Newcastle at the end of October for the final show of the “Across the great divide tour”.

There is only one thing better than a Silverchair album…a Silverchair gig!!!!

4.  Do you have any interesting “personal” stories about the band, such as meeting them?
Unfortunately I have never met the guys, but I’d love too: I read their biography (“A new tomorrow”) twice and I find their personality so intriguing and down-to-earth at the same time…

5.  Which album is your favorite and why?
I can’t really decide if I prefer Diorama or Young Modern….each album contains one of my favourite songs (Tuna in the brine and Those thieving birds). Diorama is mesmerizing (I couldn’t drive while listening to it….too distracting), but Young Modern is so uplifting… In a way I think of this two albums as ” SUN (Young Modern) and MOON (Diorama)”…I need both of them….

Turnback Thursday

Filed under: Uncategorized — silverneurotic @ 9:31 am

Welcome to the first edition of Turnback Thursday.  Turnback Thursday is a day where we will revisit the ‘Chair boys in their earlier years and marvel about how much our boys have grown up over the years.  Like always, if you have something you would like to submit for the next edition of Turnback Thursday, or for the blog in general please email me with your submission.

Today’s edition of Turnback Thursday will focus on not so distant Diorama.  I know that most of you long time ‘Chair fans probably already own the DVD portion, or at least have watched parts of this on the bonus feature that was included on the Diorama album but it is nice to take a bit down memory lane, and perhaps some brand new fans haven’t yet been introduced to this awesome “Making of” experience.

Also, from the 2002 Aria’s, the band receives their second (out of 6) awards.

That’s all for today’s edition. Hope you enjoyed your little trip back in time.  :)

The Daily Silverchair Roundup

Filed under: Music — silverneurotic @ 7:39 am

Hello and welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Daily Silverchair Roundup.  Here you will find a lovely hodge podge of Silverchair goodies that I have taken the liberty of tracking down and sharing with you lovely people.  It’s a labor of love baby.  Like always, if you’ve got some goodies to share with me…please email me with your contribution.  They are very much appreciated.

Now onward to today’s edition:

And as a bit of a treat, I am including a review of last weekend’s Sydney gig’s that Laura emailed me.  Thank you for that!

Saturday night the show was fantastic, not necessarily better than the Sunday one, but I was closer to the stage, so I could appreciate and enjoy much more  the interaction and the vibe amongst the guys while they were playing.

On Saturday they opened the set with YMS and from the first minute to the last one they owned that stage. I had seen the band playing just a few months earlier and what surprises me the most is what sort of “International Rock Stars” they have become…. Dan is a “Rock god”…..
The rest of the set included Israel’s Son (…..I didn’t expect that…but It was a veeeeeeryyyyyy welcomed surprise), Emotion Sickness (great guitar solo and superb vocals), Without you (on of my fav).

Then Dan said something like “The next song is about me….but also about you..” and the entire arena became Reflection(s) of a sound. Insomnia followed (I love it live!!….A lot of clapping) and then the beautifully chilling Ana’s Song.

We had our “now-a-classic” Happy Birthday too….I think it was for the production (?) manager…. And it’s here that I had my personal big surprise: Across the night….I LOOOOOOVE this song, it is always in my head (That would be replaced by “Those thieving birds/Strange behaviour” – my favourite from the new album – on the 9th).

At this point Dan tried to have a bit more crowd involvement and, using a  hand-held stage light on the audience, said “Let introduce yourselves!!!”….A Mexican wave flowed through the arena (with a “I love Mexico” chorus on Sunday).

From  this moment on the show become more and more exciting. After The greatest view the band had almost all the arena singing along with Straight lines. Then Daniel introduced The door with “Let’s party like 1997!!!”……It had been “Let’s party like 1995″ before, but I don’t remember for which song.

When Dan’s guitar introduced Mind reader, I was excited and a bit sad at the same time…I knew that we were almost at the end of the set…..

Then it was “crowd participation” again, with the 20.000 (?) people in the arena screaming for the band “…1 time…..2 times……3 sloooow times” We screamed up to “4 times” (thanks Chris) on Saturday and “6 times” on Sunday………I’m wandering what the screaming will be in Newcastle for the last gig……

They ended the set with IYKLS and Freak, two of my favourite songs live. Very exciting but unfortunately over……or maybe not?…..The Chair were back at the end of Powderfinger’s set for a joined performance of Substitute (by the Who). Another great, important piece in music history.

As the guys are better and better at every gig I think will have “fireworks” for the last night…..
